Science in Years 1–9: what Lärkompis practises

Lärkompis has 78 skills in science (biology, physics and chemistry) for Years 1–9 (ages 7–15), linked to the Lgr22 core content and practised in 5 mini-games. Year 2 has the most skills (18). Choose a year below to see exactly what is practised, which games are used and how you can help at home.

Years 1–3

In Years 1–3, biology, physics and chemistry are taught together as science (“NO” in Swedish schools), with the same core content for all three. It is about looking, asking, trying things out and telling others what you see.

  • Year 1: 16 skills, 5 mini-games, linked to 28 of 39 items in the core content. Areas: force and motion; body and health; materials and substances; nature through the year; systematic investigations.
  • Year 2: 18 skills, 5 mini-games, linked to 39 of 39 items in the core content. Areas: force and motion; body and health; materials and substances; nature through the year; systematic investigations.
  • Year 3: 14 skills, 5 mini-games, linked to 31 of 39 items in the core content. Areas: force and motion; body and health; materials and substances; nature through the year; systematic investigations.

Years 4–6

From Year 4, science is split into biology, physics and chemistry, each with its own content. Your child starts using concepts and models to explain things, and carries out simple investigations more independently.

  • Year 4: 13 skills, 5 mini-games, linked to 18 of 33 items in the core content. Areas: nature and environment; physics in nature and society; chemistry in nature, society and the human body; body and health; systematic investigations and examination of information.
  • Year 5: 16 skills, 5 mini-games, linked to 23 of 33 items in the core content. Areas: nature and environment; body and health; physics in nature and society; chemistry in nature, society and the human body; systematic investigations and examination of information.
  • Year 6: 15 skills, 5 mini-games, linked to 22 of 33 items in the core content. Areas: nature and environment; body and health; physics in nature and society; chemistry in nature, society and the human body; systematic investigations and examination of information.

Years 7–9

In Years 7–9, biology, physics and chemistry go deeper. Your child uses models to explain things, plans their own investigations and reasons about issues such as climate, health and technology.

  • Year 7: 14 skills, 5 mini-games, linked to 17 of 35 items in the core content. Areas: body and health; nature and environment; physics in nature and society; chemistry in nature, society and the human body; systematic investigations and examination of information.
  • Year 8: 18 skills, 5 mini-games, linked to 22 of 35 items in the core content. Areas: nature and environment; body and health; physics in nature and society; chemistry in nature, society and the human body; systematic investigations and examination of information.
  • Year 9: 12 skills, 4 mini-games, linked to 17 of 35 items in the core content. Areas: nature and environment; body and health; physics in nature and society; chemistry in nature, society and the human body; systematic investigations and examination of information.

Questions and answers

How many skills in science (biology, physics and chemistry) does Lärkompis have?

78 skills in science across Years 1–9. By year: Year 1: 16, Year 2: 18, Year 3: 14, Year 4: 13, Year 5: 16, Year 6: 15, Year 7: 14, Year 8: 18, Year 9: 12.

Which syllabuses is science in Lärkompis based on?

Science in Lärkompis is based on the syllabuses for biology, physics and chemistry. The text comes from Skolverket's open data and was fetched on 15 October 2026.

Can my child start in any year in science?

Yes. You choose your child's year and Lärkompis starts there. For science, that means your child can start anywhere between Year 1 and Year 9; if the tasks are too easy or too hard, the level adjusts, and the parent panel shows what your child is practising right now.
