Who makes the app and why

About Lärkompis

Lärkompis (roughly “learning buddy”) is made by Niklas Andervang in Sweden. I built the app for my own children. I wanted a playful alternative to the school workbook that follows the Swedish national curriculum (Lgr22), that the children enjoy, and that I can trust myself.

Why I built it

Workbooks are good, but they are the same for everyone. A child who finds maths hard gets stuck on the same page as a child who has already finished and wants to move on. I wanted something that gets just hard enough for each child, and is fun enough that the child wants to open it.

That is why Lärkompis is built like a game. Short sessions, mini-games where the game itself is the practice, stickers, collector cards and a garden that grows. And when something goes wrong, the app shows how to think about it instead of just saying “wrong”.

At the same time, most learning apps want your child's attention for as long as possible. Points, streaks and ads bring the child back, but don't necessarily teach them more. Lärkompis does the opposite: the session ends by itself, and the app earns nothing from your child getting hooked.

How we work

  • Right answers are sacred. The correct answers are worked out by code or come from checked content. Never from a language model.
  • The curriculum first. The exercises start from the Lgr22 syllabuses published by Skolverket (the Swedish National Agency for Education), and we tell you when something isn't covered yet.
  • Children's privacy. No accounts for children, no tracking and no ads.
  • An honest price.SEK 49, once. The servers are paid for by new families buying, not by children getting hooked.
